Throughout 2025 the National Plant Monitoring Scheme celebrated its 10th anniversary, an exciting and significant milestone for the scheme signalling that the hard work of NPMS volunteers and supporters is truly paying off.

This year saw another round of detailed plant monitoring and survey work, resulting in over 240 1 km squares being visited (most twice), over 1,000 small plots with data and almost 17,000 plant records.

Rooted in inclusion - NPMS commitment to accessibility

Submitted by NPMSSupport on

It is vital to review and alter how we do things to bring tangible lasting change and ensure that everyone feels able to join in with biological recording schemes.

The NPMS is open to everyone. We are a safe space, where people can bring their whole selves to volunteer with us, and we’re committed to making the scheme accessible and inclusive beyond already engaged audiences. We are threading the principles of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) throughout our workstream and ethos and have made good progress whilst recognising there’s still much more to do.

Introduction to Jo & Kim Botanical Skills Training Officers

Submitted by NPMSSupport on

Recently the NPMS partnership welcomed two new BSBI Botanical Skills Training Officers, who joined as part of the DAERA funded Botanical Skills Project to deliver botanical training in Northern Ireland.

We caught up with Kim Lake and Jo Mulholland for an introductory chat and to ask them a few questions about themselves and their new roles.

Thanks Kim and Jo, for taking the time to chat with us amidst inductions and the busy field season. A warm welcome to the NPMS.

What were you both doing before starting your new roles?
