Check out this wonderfully written blog post from one of our fantastic NPMS volunteers. Michelle has been part of the scheme since even before it's official launch, having volunteered on Plantlife surveys prior to this.

My name is Emily Wilkins and I work as a countryside ranger for the islands of Iona, Staffa and the southern part of Mull off the west coast of Scotland. It’s a partnership role between the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and the local Mull & Iona Community Trust (MICT).
Here at the National Plant Monitoring Scheme, we take great pride in making all our data open and freely accessible to others. We have published our data in various ways since the beginning of the scheme in 2015 (e.g. see our Conservation and Research page), with the full dataset published annual on the Natural Environment Research Council's Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC).
As some surveyors may be aware, the National Plant Monitoring Scheme website makes use of the "indicia" infrastructure for biological recording, as do most of the Biological Records Centre-supported national recording schemes. This allows us to make use of functionality developed elsewhere; for example, within the popular iRecord site for general, ad hoc, biological recording.
This is to announce that we have updated the Privacy Notice for the National Plant Monitoring Scheme. The changes relate to (i) a questionnaire on scheme accessibility and (ii) the use of Mailchimp for emails
